Cutting Measurements for Dice Bag
For one drawstring dice bag, cut the following main fabric pieces.
Large Rectangle (Body Piece)
22 cm × 44 cm
(8.7 × 17.3 inches)
This will become the body piece of the bag.
Small Rectangle (Base Piece)
12 cm × 24 cm
(4.7 × 9.4 inches)
This piece forms the bottom of the bag and helps create the structure.
Optional Strap
84 cm × 3 cm
(33 × 1.2 inches)
Step-by-Step Sewing Instructions for Sewing Dice Bag
Now we start sewing your DIY dice pouch!
Step 1 – Prepare the Body Piece of Dice Bag
First thing, take the large rectangle.
Fold it in half along the long side with the wrong side of the fabric facing out.
Pin the raw edges together.
Leave a small opening about
5 cm (2 inches) wide. This will be the turning hole.
Using your sewing machine, sew around the edges with a 1 cm seam allowance, leaving the opening unsewn.
Step 2 – Trim and Turn
Trim the corners slightly to reduce bulk.
Be careful not to cut into the stitches.
Turn the fabric through the small opening so the right side of the fabric is facing out.
Press the piece flat.
Topstitch around the outer edge about
0.5 cm (0.2 inches) from the edge.
This will close the opening and create a neat folded edge.
This finished rectangle becomes the bag exterior.
Step 3 – Sew the Bottom Piece
Repeat the same process for the smaller rectangle.
Fold with the wrong side of the fabric facing out.
Pin the raw edges and leave another small opening.
Sew with a 1 cm seam allowance.
Trim corners, turn right side out, and press.
Topstitch around the outer edge.
Now both rectangular pieces are ready.
Step 4 – Attach the Base
Lay the large rectangle flat.
This will become the top of the bag once assembled.
Place the smaller rectangle exactly in the center.
Use a ruler to make sure the distance from all sides of the bag is equal.
Draw two diagonal lines from corner to corner to create an X shape.
Sew along these lines.
Sew directly along those X lines, attaching the small piece to the large one. These step connects the pieces and forms the round bottom structure of the bag.
Press everything flat.
Step 5 – Create the Drawstring Channels
Next step is forming the corner channels.
Fold each corner into a small triangle.
The fold should be about
4 cm (1.6 inches) from the corner.
Mark a stitching line about
1 cm from the folded edge.
Sew along this line.
Repeat on all four corners.
These stitched folds create the drawstring casing where the drawstring cords will run.
Step 6 – Insert the Drawstring
Attach a safety pin to the end of the cord.
Use the pin to guide the cord through all four channels.
Pull the cord through until both ends of the drawstring meet.
Tie a knot at the end of the cord.
If needed, apply a little Fray Check to prevent fraying.
Pull the cords tight.
Your finished bag will close neatly into a drawstring dice bag.
Optional Wrist Strap
If you want an easier way to carry your bag, you can add a strap.
- Cut a strip:
- 84 × 3 cm
(33 × 1.2 inches) - Fold lengthwise with the wrong side of the fabric facing out.
- Sew along the long side.
- Turn right side out and press.
- Attach the strap to one corner before sewing the drawstring tunnels.
- This turns your dice bag into a handy little pouch.
