However, printing and assembling PDF sewing patterns can be tricky if you don’t know how to do it correctly. In this blog post, I will show you how to print and assemble free PDF sewing patterns using A4 paper size, which is the standard paper size in most countries. You will also learn how to choose the right settings on your printer and computer, how to cut and tape the pages together, and how to use the patterns to create beautiful garments.

There are many websites that offer free PDF sewing patterns for various types of garments, such as dresses, skirts, tops, pants, bags, and more. Some of them are:

How to Print Free PDF Sewing Patterns Using A4 Paper Size?

Before you print your free PDF sewing pattern, you need to make sure that you have the following things:

• A printer that can print on A4 paper size
• A4 paper sheets
• A pair of scissors
• A glue stick
• A tape
• A ruler or measuring tape

To print your free PDF sewing pattern using A4 paper size, follow these steps:

1. Download the PDF file of the pattern that you want to print from the website where you found it.
2. Open the PDF file on your computer using a PDF reader program such as Adobe Acrobat Reader.
3. Check the settings of your printer and make sure that they are set to print on A4 paper size. Also make sure that the scale or fit option is set to 100% or actual size. Do not use any scaling or fit options that might shrink or enlarge the pattern.
4. Print the first page of the PDF file and check if there is a test square on it. The test square is usually a 10 cm x 10 cm or 4 inch x 4 inch square that helps you check if the pattern is printed correctly. Measure the test square with your ruler or measuring tape and make sure that it matches the dimensions given on the page. If it does not match, adjust the settings of your printer until it does.
5. Print the rest of the pages of the PDF file following the same settings as before.
6. Cut out the pages along the edges using your scissors.

How to Assemble Free PDF Sewing Patterns Using A4 Paper Size?

After you print your free PDF sewing pattern using A4 paper size, you need to assemble it by joining the pages together. There are three types of patterns that you can find on my channel and blog Sparrow Refashion, each of them is assembled differently:

Type 1: No joining required:

The first type of pattern does not require joining the sheets. It means that the pattern is in several elements and each of them is smaller than A4 paper size. For example, bustier tops, milkmaid tops, and ruched bust tops. You just need to cut out the pattern pieces and use them as they are.

Type 2: Glue along marked line:

The second type of pattern requires cutting and gluing the sheets. It means that the pattern is in several elements and each of them is larger than A4 paper size. For example, wrap skirts, maxi dresses, and jumpsuits. You need to cut along the marked line as shown in the photo and use a glue stick to glue it to the pattern element below. Repeat the same steps with each pattern element until you create a complete pattern piece.

Type 3: Tape along edges:

The third type of pattern requires taping the sheets. It means that the pattern is in one large element that covers several A4 paper sheets. For example, coats, jackets, and gowns. You need use tape to join it to the pattern element next to it. Repeat the same steps with each pattern element until you create a complete pattern piece.

How to Use Free PDF Sewing Patterns to Create Beautiful Garments?

Once you print and assemble your free PDF sewing pattern using A4 paper size, you can use it to create beautiful garments. To do that, you need to follow these steps:

1. Choose the fabric that you want to use for your garment. Make sure that it matches the type and amount of fabric recommended by the pattern.
2. Lay the fabric on a flat surface and fold it according to the instructions given by the pattern.
3. Place the pattern pieces on top of the fabric and pin them in place. Make sure that they are aligned with the grainline and the fold of the fabric.
4. Cut out the fabric along the edges of the pattern pieces using your scissors or a rotary cutter.
5. Mark the notches, darts, pleats, or any other markings on the fabric using tailor’s chalk or a fabric marker.
6. Sew the fabric pieces together following the sewing instructions given by the pattern or by watching my video tutorials on my channel Sparrow Refashion.
7. Finish the seams, hems, or any other details using your sewing machine or a serger.
8. Press your garment with an iron and try it on.
