Materials
  • Knit Fabrics (such as rayon jersey or cotton lycra) – 1 to 1.5 yards
  • Thread (Matching or Contrasting) : Thread is crucial for sewing the pieces together. Choosing matching thread will create a seamless look, while contrasting thread can add a decorative element.
  • Bias Tape (Optional) : Bias tape can be used for the straps and finishing edges. It provides additional support and a clean, finished look.
Tools
  • Sewing Machine: Essential for stitching the side seams, shoulder seams, and hem of the tank. It ensures precise and strong seams, making the construction process efficient.
  • Scissors : They are needed to cut the fabric and trim seam allowances. Sharp scissors ensure clean and accurate cuts.
  • Pins : Used to hold the fabric pieces together during sewing. They help maintain precise alignment of the pattern pieces.
  • Measuring Tape or Ruler : It is essential for measuring the fabric accurately and marking seam allowances. It ensures the top is cut to the actual size.
  • Seam Ripper : It is useful for removing stitches if mistakes are made. It helps correct errors without damaging the fabric.
  • Fabric Marker or Chalk : They are used to mark cutting lines and other important points on the fabric. These marks are temporary and easily removable.
  • Iron : It is used to press the seams and fabric. Pressing helps achieve crisp edges and smooth seams, giving the top a professional finish.

By using these materials and tools, you can efficiently and effectively create a stylish spaghetti strap top. Each item plays a crucial role in the assembly and finishing of the garment, ensuring a high-quality and fashionable piece.

BEFORE SEWING!

Test your stitches first on every new fabric. Stitches might perform differently when you are sewing along the grain or cross-grain of a knit, so you need to take that into account when you are sewing. If your machine lets you adjust the pressure of your presser foot, decreasing the pressure can help prevent stretch fabric from stretching or puckering while you sew.

Shoulder Straps Sewing

  • Fold and Sew: Fold the straps with right sides together, pin, and sew.

  • Repeat: Sew both straps in the same way.
  • Attach Straps: With right sides together, pin the straps to the neckline and armholes of the top and sew.
