What is Bell Sleeve?

fashion illustration of a bell sleeve

A bell sleeve is a type of sleeve that flares out at the bottom, resembling the shape of a bell. 🌸 It starts fitted or slightly tapered near the shoulder and upper arm, then gradually widens towards the wrist or elbow, creating a dramatic and flowy effect.

Bell sleeves are super versatile—they can range from subtle and elegant to bold and statement-making, depending on the fabric and design. They’re often used in dresses, tops, and blouses to add a touch of femininity, vintage charm, or bohemian flair. Whether you’re dressing up for an event or adding character to a casual outfit, bell sleeves are a fabulous way to make your clothing stand out!

This design is timeless and has made appearances throughout fashion history, from the romantic styles of the Renaissance to the free-spirited boho looks of the ’70s. Today, bell sleeves are a popular choice for creating garments with personality and movement.
