How to Sew a Ruffle Raglan Sleeve Dress: Step by Step Tutorial

Now that you have everything you need, let’s start sewing your ruffle reglan dress. Here are the steps to follow:

Cut out the pattern pieces:

Print out the free reglan blouse pattern, the free pocket pattern, and the free ruffle pattern. Cut them out along the lines and add a 1 cm seam allowance to each piece. You should have four pieces for the blouse (front, back, and two sleeves), two pieces for the pockets, and four pieces for the ruffles (two for the front and two for the back).

Cut out the fabric pieces:

Lay your fabric on a flat surface and pin the pattern pieces to it. Cut out the fabric pieces along the edges of the pattern pieces. You should have four pieces for the bodice (front, back, and two sleeves), two pieces for the pockets, and four pieces for the ruffles (two for the front and two for the back).

Sew the bodice:

Place the front and back pieces of the bodice right sides together and pin them along the shoulder seams. Sew them together with a straight stitch. Then, open the seams and press them flat. Next, place the sleeves right sides together with the bodice and pin them along the armholes. Sew them together with a straight stitch. Then, open the seams and press them flat. Finally, fold the bodice right sides together and pin it along the side seams. Sew it together with a straight stitch. Then, turn the bodice right side out and press it flat.

Sew the pockets:

Place the pocket pieces right sides together and pin them along the curved edges. Sew them together with a zigzag stitch, leaving a small opening for turning. Then, turn the pockets right side out and press them flat. Next, place the pockets on the right side of the skirt pieces, aligning them with the side seams and the hem. Pin them in place and sew them to the skirt with a straight stitch, closing the opening. Repeat this for the other skirt piece and pocket.

Sew the skirt:

Place the front and back pieces of the skirt right sides together and pin them along the side seams. Sew them together with a straight stitch. Then, open the seams and press them flat.

Sew the ruffles:

Place the front and back pieces of the ruffles right sides together and pin them along the side seams. Sew them together with a straight stitch. Then, open the seams and press them flat. Next, hem the bottom edge of the ruffles with a narrow zigzag stitch. Then, gather the top edge of the ruffles with a long and loose straight stitch, pulling the threads to create ruffles. Adjust the ruffles to match the width of the skirt.

Attach the ruffles to the skirt:

Place the ruffles on the right side of the skirt, aligning them with the waistline. Pin them in place and sew them to the skirt with a straight stitch. Then, open the seam and press it flat.

Attach the bodice to the skirt:

Place the bodice on the right side of the skirt, aligning them at the waistline. Pin them in place and sew them together with a straight stitch. Then, open the seam and press it flat.

Finish the neckline:

Fold the neckline of the bodice to the wrong side by 1 cm and press it flat. Then, sew it in place with a narrow zigzag stitch. You can also add a ribbon or a lace trim to the neckline for extra decoration.

Finish the sleeves:

Fold the hem of the sleeves to the wrong side by 1 cm and press it flat. Then, sew it in place with a narrow zigzag stitch. You can also add a ribbon or a lace trim to the sleeves for extra decoration.

Ready !

Try on your dress and make any adjustments: Try on your ruffle reglan dress and see how it fits. You can make any adjustments to the length, the width, or the shape of the dress by trimming or sewing the seams. You can also add some buttons, snaps, or a zipper to the back of the dress for closure.
